Research Interests
Biomedical engineering - I am interested in developing new methods for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) especially for functional connectivity. I am interested in applying existing complex network tools and adapting them to dynamic (time-varying) brain functional connectivity networks.

Cognitive Neuroscience - I am interested in auditory scene analysis during listening of complex auditory stimuli (music, speech, complex auditory scene) specifically in the processes of temporal segmentation, stream perception and large-scale structures of musical composition. I am also interested in subcortical-cortical dynamic interactions.

Music cognition and computational musicology - I am interested in computational theories of music (e.g. generative theory of tonal music) and possible neural correlates of such models.

About me
I graduated in Telecommunication Engineering (University of Padua, 2002) and worked as a research assistant (2003-2004); research topic: patterns in time-series of internet traffic.

In 2004 I moved to London to work for the IT industry until end 2007, but decided to go back to the academy studying for a second master degree in music cognition: Music, Mind & Technology (University of Jyväskylä).

Since 2008, I have been working for the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Music Research employed by the Cognitive Brain Reasearch Unit, University of Helsinki.

Since 2010, I am a PhD candidate at Aalto University School of Science (former Helsinki University of Technology) combining fMRI and complex networks methods to understand brain functions. I work at the Brain & Mind Laboratory at the department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science. I am a member of the aivoAALTO research team.

My areas of experties include pattern recognition, time-series analysis and various non-linear methods. I am a proficient software developer using mainly: MATLAB, Python, PHP, Bash but also: AS3, C/C++/ObjectiveC, Visual Basic, JavaScript, Java.

I also work as free-lance software developer and system administrator for various IT companies. More info here.
